Development of Drought Vulnerability Index for Upland Crops using Soil Moisture Data

Recently, with changing rainfall patterns worldwide due to climate change, the effects and damages of upland crops are increasing. A water supply system from irrigation facilities such as agricultural reservoirs pumping stations has been established in paddy fields, whereas uplands equipped account for only 18.5% area. Therefore, it is necessary analyze vulnerable areas droughts because they depend on natural lack ability respond drought damage. Currently, there limited information an characteristics actual cultivation period not analyzed. Soil moisture directly resulting shortage highly related drought, especially vegetation. can be evaluated using soil weather data. In this study, vulnerability index based runs theory entropy method was developed effective moisture, index, groundwater level. meteorological data were obtained observation network (Rural Development Administration), (Korea Meteorological Administration). The results showed that Upland Drought Vulnerability Index (UDVI) tool quantitatively evaluating vulnerability.
